Choreography workshop

About the workshop:

“BESIDE is an interesting proposition also because there is nothing dualistic about it; a number of elements may lie alongside one another, though not an infinity of them. […] Beside comprises a wide range of desiring, identifying, representing, repelling, paralleling, differentiating, rivalling, leaning, twisting, mimicking, withdrawing, attracting, warping, and other relations” (Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick, Touching Feeling: Affect, Pedagogy, Performativity).

The workshop will be divided into two parts. The first will include viewing of several performances, through which the approaches to contemporary dramaturgy will be analyzed. The second part will be devoted to dramaturgy in contemporary dance. The workshop will be practically oriented; participants will be actively included with their contributions and analyses. Artists, theoreticians and writers are warmly welcome.

About the leader:

Maja Delak is a choreographer, dancer, pedagogue based in Ljubljana, Slovenia. She studied at CNDC L'Esquisse in Angers, France. She has extensive stage and film experience performing especially with En-Knap Dance Company and has worked with film and video artists in Slovenia .She has created and toured with her own choreographies: Manifestation of the Introvert, Gina & Miovanni, 6agon, Mezzanino. In collaboration with Mala Kline, she created Properly Blonde in 2004, Gallery of Dead Women (2005), Rondinella and HI-RES. Her piece for seven performers Expensive Darlings premiered in October 2007. In May 2008, she created Serata artistica giovanile. In 2006, she established institute Emanat, with which she aims for the affirmation and development of contemporary dance.
