About Nagib

Performances presented at this year's festival NagiB show a special sensitivity toward the material world outside. They examine the ties between perception and experience of the world. It seems as if the body needs to ceaselessly make signals that speak of the body’s meaning, thus instilling sense into it. Even more, the body is/needs to be constantly surrounded by objects, things, and it is these objects that convince the body of its own existence. Contemporary individual has bound her/his experience of the world to the objects surrounding her/him (be it things or representations). Perception of the world is filtered through criteria of usage value. Does not this mean that the body itself equals an object, a thing, and that it is reduced to mere usage value? If yes, how free is our choice of who gets to use our bodies? How total is our dependence on material world? What are we willing to do not to lose the things around us?
